If you鈥檙e a fan of herring 鈥� whether it is pickled, rolled, baked or sauced 鈥� then make sure to mark March 1 on your calendar for the second annual Howe Sound Herring Festival at the Brackendale Art Gallery (BAG).
鈥淚t鈥檚 about celebrating the health of Howe Sound,鈥� said the gallery鈥檚 Dorte Froslev. 鈥淎nd about celebrating the return of the herring. People postulate that the work the Streamkeepers did to bring the herring back to Howe Sound is what has been bringing the whales, dolphins and orcas here鈥� because there is food here now.鈥�
Food at the festival includes pickled herring served in a variety of ways, rollmops, smoked herring, soused herring, salted herring, plus apple pie for dessert.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a fairly Scandinavian menu,鈥� said Froslev.
Following the meal, the 麻豆社国产Streamkeepers are scheduled to give a presentation to festival-goers.
鈥淟ast year was a sold out event,鈥� said Froslev. 鈥淲e鈥檝e added a few more tickets for this year, but seating is still limited.鈥�
Tickets are $25, and available at Xocolatl or the BAG.
The festival gets underway at 7 p.m.
