On Sunday (Aug. 24) it鈥檚 up, up, and away to family fun as the 麻豆社国产Airport Community Day glides into the local landing strip from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
鈥淭his is our fourth year celebrating 麻豆社国产Airport Community Day,鈥� said Colette Morin, executive of the 麻豆社国产Flying Club, which is hosting the event, and owner of Glacier Air. 鈥淭he idea behind the event is to rekindle people鈥檚 interest in the 麻豆社国产Airport and show them what we have here. We鈥檙e not a big Vancouver airport. We are a small community airport, and people don鈥檛 really realize what goes on at a community airport.鈥�
She said the 麻豆社国产Flying Club was instrumental in originally creating the airport and runway, which was only paved in 1973.聽
To celebrate the local facility, the 麻豆社国产Airport Community Day features a wide range of activities for anyone interested in aviation, especially the kids.
鈥淲e have invited a bunch of flying clubs to attend, so we will have planes flying in from all over.鈥�
The event also features an aircraft show and shine, live music and a concession run by the Lion鈥檚 Club.聽
鈥淲e will also be offering discounted airplane tours,鈥� said Morin. 鈥淲e hope to offer helicopter tours as well, but that is dependant on whether or not they will be fighting fires.鈥�
The day will also see a visit from the Women of Aviation, as well as an acrobatic aviation display.
鈥淚t isn鈥檛 an air show,鈥� said Morin. 鈥淏ut, weather-depending, there will be acrobatic flights.鈥�
The event is open to all, but Morin said people are asked to keep their dogs at home. Visit squamishflyingclub.com or their Facebook page.
