Have a hankering to design uniquely 麻豆社国产banners? When the current winter banners come down around the district, the work of local artists will be hoisted atop the poles around 麻豆社国产in time to flap in the summer breeze.
The district鈥檚 public art select committee has put out a call for 麻豆社国产artists for the 2016 Street Banner Competition.
鈥淲e鈥檙e looking for banner submissions that are both unique in design and that celebrate Squamish鈥檚 vibrant spirit and brand positioning,鈥� said Anna Lippman, vice-chair of the public art select committee. 鈥淭he street banner project is a great opportunity to showcase local art throughout the town and help visitors gain a sense of our community.鈥�
The winning banners will be on display at three spots around the community: Downtown Squamish, Garibaldi Estates and Brennan Park Recreation Centre.
Artists can submit proposals for up to five street banner designs. The art committee will choose four designs from one or more artists.
鈥淭he banner program has been ongoing for years,鈥� said Mayor Patricia Heintzman. 鈥淭he chamber used to do it and then the Olympic committee used to do it鈥� We used to do it through [district] operations, and council used to do it. Now we have a public art committee, so they will manage the actual designing and getting it up there, which is great.鈥澛�
The banner program budget is $23,000, of which $15,000 will be carried forward from the 2015 budget to be added to an additional $8,000 from 2016, according to district staff.
The opportunity is open to artists of any medium who live in Squamish.
Submissions are due by Feb. 22.
