WASHINGTON (AP) 鈥� A wandering chicken was caught sneaking around a security area at the Pentagon, a local animal welfare organization said.
The loose hen was found early Monday morning near the U.S. Department of Defense headquarters, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, Virginia, wrote on social media.
鈥淎pparently, the answer to 鈥榳hy did the chicken cross the road鈥� is to get to the Pentagon,鈥� the group .
The chicken was taken into custody by one of the league鈥檚 employees.
Chelsea Jones, a spokesperson for the organization, said in an email that she couldn鈥檛 reveal the precise location where the bird was spotted.
鈥淲e are not allowed to disclose exactly where she was found,鈥� Jones said. 鈥淲e can only say it was at a security checkpoint.鈥�
It鈥檚 also unclear where the chicken came from or how she got to the Pentagon.
The hen 鈥� which has brown feathers and a red comb and wattles 鈥� is a Rhode Island Red. Jones described the bird as 鈥渟weet鈥� and 鈥渘ervous鈥� but said she has allowed some people to pet her.
She鈥檚 now , one of the names given to the chicken that thinks 鈥渢he sky is falling鈥� in a folk tale.
This one has gained notoriety of her own: Jimmy Fallon on 鈥淭he Tonight Show.鈥�
鈥淎re you a normal clucker or an undercover spy?鈥� Fallon sang on his Tuesday episode.
Jones said Henny Penny is being adopted by a staff member who has a small farm in western Virginia.
