Local birder Chris Dale shot this video of a song sparrow singing its cheery song in the 麻豆社国产Estuary on March 30.
In the spring and summer, song sparrows can often be spotted in and around Squamish.
Here are some fun facts about these common sparrows from :
*Male birds sing often. They sing to attract a mate or defend their territory;
*Depending on where they live, the sparrows look very different.
* Song sparrows on can be one-third longer than the eastern birds and weigh twice as much.
*Their nests are well-loved. The same nest can get used year after year, even when entirely new birds take over the territory;
*The oldest known song sparrow was 11 years old when captured and released during Colorado's banding operation.
