To mark the beginning of what will soon become the Howe Sound Secondary farm, Tsawaysia Spukwus (Alice Guss) of the S岣祑x瘫wú7mesh Úxwumixw (麻豆社国产Nation) held a land offering ceremony on March 2.
The event gathered dozens at the Howe Sound Secondary field, including organizers, students and some elected officials.
This occasion was organized by 麻豆社国产CAN, in partnership with SD48, 麻豆社国产Food Policy Council, Farm to School B.C., the District of 麻豆社国产and the 麻豆社国产Lillooet Regional District.
Spukwus sung songs honouring the wolves, orcas, beavers and eagles, and encouraged the crowd to join in each animal's particular dance.
Members of 麻豆社国产CAN were also offering bits of lavender to students, who were instructed by Spukwus to sprinkle it along the land that would soon become the farm.
